LAVENDER BUTTERFLY PEA FLOWER SIMPLE SYRUP

This amazing simple syrup recipe is a MUST when creating Instagram-worthy cocktails! The Butterfly Pea Flower is my “secret” ingredient to add a gorgeous color to cocktails. BONUS- it changes colors when citrus is added! The flower itself does not contain much flavor, but keep an eye out as many tea blends will be hard to distinguish from regular dried butterfly pea flowers. TIP: When in a pinch purchase the Butterfly Pea Flower extract drops. These are so easy to use and can be added to ANY cocktail!

How long does it the syrup last?

Simple syrup has a very long shelf life due to it containing such a high sugar content. Simple syrup can last a year or longer when contained properly. Once other food products are introduced into simple syrups, however, there is an increased likeliness that the simple syrup will have a shorter shelf life. Due to this, it is recommended that you strain all particles of lavender (& vanilla or butterfly pea flowers, if applicable) as well as possible, and to refrigerate the lavender simple syrup. When refrigerated, it should be able to last for a month or more. The exception here is the sugar free or low-calorie recipe, as the reduced sugar content will lessen the shelf life.

What should I use to store my lavender simple syrup?

Depending on how often you plan to use your simple syrup, the simple syrup can be stored in a glass jar with a lid, a wine bottle, or even a mason jar. I store my simple syrups in elegant glass bottles that fit traditional pour spouts. I love doing this for two reasons: first, they look beautiful when hosting cocktail parties, and second, adding the pour spout makes them so easy to use when making more than one cocktail! (Just be sure to save the cork or closure to seal the bottle when you’re done with the pour spout!)

How to use Lavender Simple Syrup?

Lavender simple syrup has been my go-to when creating cocktails and mocktails for almost a decade! I use it in just about every style of cocktail recipe, from margaritas to martinis, and even coffee drinks (particularly latte’s- yum!). Because it is so potent, a little syrup goes a long way. No matter what lavender cocktail recipe you use, do a taste test to make sure it is the right balance of strength, sweetness, with a touch of floral notes. All palates are different!
