Jalapeno Margarita
A little sweet, a little heat and a whole lot of fun. This jalapeño margarita is made with a quick homemade jalapeño simple syrup, so you get that slow-building kick without muddling a single pepper.
Ingredients
1½ oz silver tequila
1 oz fresh lime juice
½ oz fresh orange juice (or a squeeze of fresh orange)
¾ oz jalapeño simple syrup (recipe below)
½ oz Cointreau or Grand Marnier, optional (shake it in or float it on top)
Lime wedge, for garnish
Directions
Add the tequila, lime juice, orange juice, jalapeño simple syrup and Cointreau to a shaker with ice.
Shake well, then strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
Garnish with a lime wedge. Taste and add a little more syrup if you like it sweeter or spicier.
Jalapeño Simple Syrup
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
2 jalapeños, sliced (keep the seeds in for more heat)
Combine everything in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
Remove from the heat and let the peppers steep for 15 to 20 minutes. Steep longer for more spice.
Strain into a jar and chill. It keeps in the fridge for about two weeks.
Extra syrup? Stir a spoonful into sparkling water or a gin and tonic for a little spicy kick.
