How to Use a Cobbler Cocktail From the boozy mermaid cocktail academy!

The Cobbler Cocktail Shaker is one of the two main styles of Cocktail Shakers. The Cobbler cocktail shaker consists of three pieces: the main tin, the top with a built -in strainer, and a lid or cap. The Cobbler cocktail shaker is a great addition to your home bar, and is very easy use! However, there are some important tips and tricks to help you use the Cobbler cocktail shaker when creating cocktails.

  • Add ingredients to your cocktail shaker, and 1-2 scoops of ice. You do not want to fill the ice to the top, a good rule of thumb is to add enough ice to cover the amount of liquid.

Tip: The more ice, the more dilution. Adding the right amount of ice is key to deliver consistently delicious cocktails!

  • Add the lid, make sure it is snug but do not press down too firmly. Add the cap.

Tip: Due to the design of Cobbler shakers, their main lid tends to “stick”. Making sure your lid is snug, but not pressing down too firmly on the main lid will help the removal of the lid after shaking.

  • Shake the contents for 10-15 seconds. Unsure how to shake? Place your right hand gently on the main cap, and your left hand on the base of the shaker. Move the shaker in quick back-and-forth movements to mix the contents. I’ll be adding videos here, on Instagram, and TikTok including mastering the perfect “shake”. You’ll be shaking like a pro in no time!

  • After shaking, remove lid and pour contents into glass. Do not replace the cap, as this will help release pressure and allow you to remove the main lid.

Tip: To remove the main lid, allow the shaker to sit 1-5 minutes after straining contents, with the cap removed but the main lid still in place. This is the trick to release the pressure from the inside of the container, and will allow you to remove the lid. Still stuck? Run the shaker under warm (not hot) water, and gently slide the main lid off. The longer you shaker, the tighter the seal and higher the pressure inside, so keep in mind when the lid is being stubborn!
